Standard Two Student Development:
The teacher understands how children learn and develop and can provide learning opportunities that support a child’s intellectual, social, and personal development.

This link explains an ongoing presentation for the Civil Rights movement. This presentation allows the students to research one vocabulary word and present it to the class for 3 to 5 minutes. Students are able to use their textbooks, websites or other research material. Furthermore, it allows the students to teach their peers and is also a self assessment. Therefore, they will be grading themselves based on the guide sheet that is presented to them.

The next link is also another activity I would have my students do while learning about the Civil Rights movement. In this activity they “Create a Mandala” to describe how they would have felt and/or what attributes about them would have gotten them through it if they were an African American during the Civil Rights era.
